I learnt a lot from that and it sounds like the archaeology is being done in the right way (although I’m no expert).

Good to get some facts. Who would of thought there was so much there.

More reason and facts please from everybody; less vitriol please, which I’m less inclined to read. Its really off putting. We get enough of the abrasive stuff from the House of Commons.

Wow, this is really interesting. If one good thing comes out of this development it is that we can learn about Chatteris’ past. You dont really hear much about Fen history so I look forward to seeing what they find.

Glad you found it interesting, we actually spoke in some detail about the dig and I saw the geophysics survey, so i’ll blog personally about that at some point this week and post a link for interested parties. I’m quite excited at the prospect of a Bronze Age settlement, (bit more exciting in terms of rarity than Iron Age), and the prospect of a decent excavation. The settlements lay pretty much where the road is planned, so the argument for mitigation and a decent scale of excavation is pretty strong.

Thanks for this, as a history fan I went to the website straight away. Its really amazing what lies under Chatteris. I always had a pretty narrow minded view that Fenland didnt have much of a history and how wrong I was! Bit puzzled as to why its not publicised a bit more. Perhaps it might be an idea to talk to the local schools and get the kids to be a bit more knowledgeable on Chatteris history?
